the Lunatic's Bestiary is actually a guide to denizens from behind the veil, which is a project devoted to cataloging extra dimensional beings which aren't quite able to properly manifest in our reality, but are sometimes visible to those who are also out of sync with this reality
the concept being that encounters with said denizens would erode your sanity, thus allowing you to see such things more clearly and frequently, which would further reduce your sanity, causing your... you get the idea, right?
